Cabinet nod for development of primary courts

The Cabinet of Ministers on Tuesday granted approval for the improvement of facilities at a number of magistrate and circuit courts across the island.

The decision was taken considering the increasing judicial processes and inadequate space at court premises.

The proposal was submitted to Cabinet by Justice and Prison Reforms Minister Thalatha Atukorale. The proposal suggested the expansion of the Narammala Circuit Magistrate’s Court, the construction of Circuit Magistrate’s Courts in Wakarei and Delgoda and District Magistrate’s Court in Walapane, the establishment of archives at the Akkaraipattu and Pottuvil District Magistrate’s Courts, and the construction of official residences for the Chilaw district judge and magistrate.

The Cabinet of Ministers approved an allocation of Rs 592.86 million for these projects to be carried out within a medium-term budgetary framework, from 2020 to 2022.
