Manipay PS officials visit Aquatic Sport Complex in South

A delegation of 33 members including Manipay Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman A. Jepanesan visited the Seenigama Aquatic Complex in Hikkaduwa, on March 16 to gather information for the proposed Aquatic Sports Complex which will be built in the Sellamuttu playground.

The Complex will be built with the assistance of a donor who lives abroad.

The aim of the visit was to understand the concept of an Aquatic Complex.

The delegation witnessed the success factors of the donor-supported Aquatic Complex managed by the Foundation of Goodness, a non-profit NGO in Seenigma in Hikkaduwa.

The Policy Development Office of the Prime Minister’s Office on a request of a donor instructed the Jaffna Government Agent to find a suitable location for an Aquatic Complex in Jaffna.

After inspecting all the recommended plots of lands, the land of the Sellamuththu playground which belongs to the Manipay PS was selected.

After negotiations with the Manipay PS, the donor proposed that the Aquatic Complex be managed by the Foundation of Goodness which has the experience in similar nature.

“This visit also bridged the gap between the North and South of Sri Lanka in the process of reconciliation after decades-old conflict,” they said.
