Illegal gem miners held

Bogawanthalawa Police on a tip-off took six suspects into custody over illegal gem mining in two separate places on Wednesday evening.

One suspect was arrested at St. Vigeans Estate and others at the Kotiyagala Estate with the equipment they used.

The suspects are between the ages of 30 and 50, and are residents of the Bogawantalawa and Dickoya areas.

They have been released on police bail and will be produced before the Hatton Magistrate’s Courts on March 26.

Bogawantalawa Police are investigating.
