Six arrested for illegal gem mining

The Bogawanthalawa Police officers on tip-off arrested six suspects who were engaged in illegal gem mining in two separate places yesterday evening.

One suspect was arrested at the St. Vigeans estate and five others were arrested at the Kotiyagala estate with equipment used by them.

The suspects are between the ages 30 and 50 and residents of Bogawantalawa and Dickoya areas.

They have been released on police bail and will be produced before the Hatton Magistrate Courts on March 26.

Bogawantalawa police are investigating.
