Ambassador Anver receives Star of Friendship Award

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has awarded the Star of Friendship (President Mahmoud Abbas Gold Medal) to Sri Lankan Ambassador Fawzan Anver, in appreciation of his role in strengthening relations between Palestine and Sri Lanka. The Palestinian President had presented the award to Ambassador Anver during a farewell meeting held at the Palestinian Presidential Headquarters in Ramallah. Palestinian Foreign Affairs Minister Riyad Al Malki and Majdi Al Khalidi, who is also the Special Advisor of the Diplomatic Affairs for the President, was present as well.

During the meeting, Palestinian President Abbas had appreciated the granting of a plot of land to construct a building to house the Palestinian Embassy in Colombo, on the advise of President Maithripala Sirisena. The Palestinian President had also appreciated President Sirisena for extending support to Palestine during his address to the 73rd session of the United Nations General Assembly, last year. Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas had thanked Anver for his contributions to strengthen the socioeconomic ties between Palestine and Sri Lanka during his tenure.
