Tribute to a legend

‘Sanda Obai Piyanane’, a musical event to commemorate the iconic singer Milton Mallawarachchi on his 75th birth anniversary was held at the BMICH on March 9.

The iconic singer’s elder son Ranil Mallawarachchi accompanied by his son Pavan Mallawarachchi sang around 30 of Milton’s most popular songs.

The event compeered by Kelum Srimal offered a golden opportunity for Milton Mallawarachchi’s fans to go down memory lane listening to romantic songs sung by their idol decades back. Renowned musician Sarath de Alwis directed music for the event.Milton Mallawarachchi, with his mesmerizing voice, rocked the Sri Lankan music field in the 70s and 80s decades with an array of love songs. His unique presentation style and voice was embraced by the listeners and he was soon elevated to star status.

Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa graced the event with the Chief Guest of the event, Charith Group of Companies Chairman and social worker, Dr Clarence Kumarage.

‘Sanda Obai Piyanane’ was organized by the Old Boys Association of St. John’s College, Nugegoda, headed by Dilruk Kulasinghe in association with the Milton Mallawarachchi Foundation.
