Kingswood-S.Thomas’ will be evenly balanced

S.Thomas’ College Mount Lavinia will host Kingswood College Kandy for their annual inter-school rugby encounter in the Singer ‘A’ Division league rugby tournament first round at Mount Lavinia commencing at 4.00 pm today. Both teams are evenly balanced.

This year the Thomian outfit will be captained by experienced Sri Lanka national under 19 second row forward Harith Senanayake while former Isipathana captain cum Sri Lanka national player Shamlie Nawaz will be their head coach along with ex Royal College player and Sri Lanka captain Asanga Rodrigo is the three quarter coach.

Meanwhile the Kingswood will be captained this year by their experienced prop forward Milan Weerasinghe. While Dinesh Gamage will be their head coach. They won their first match against Wesley (17-12) at Nittawela in Kandy but lost their last week match to St.Peters (7-14) at the same venue.

In the meantime the Thomians will be hoping to produce an improved performance after they lost their second match for the season against arch rival Royal College (10-17) at Thomian grounds in Mount Lavinia last week but pulled off a shock win against St. Peters by (20-19) in their opening match at their home grounds.

A close battle is expected between these two schools in today’s encounter at Mount Lavinia.
