Over 60 die in train accidents in three months

During the first two months of this year, there were 64 deaths as a result of train accidents in the country.

Most of the victims had used mobile phones while walking on railway lines, or had used the level crossing despite warnings, or committed suicide by jumping in front of moving trains, or took selfies on the railway tracks.

In 2018, about 570 persons died as a result of train accidents, in Sri Lanka, said Anura Adikari, chief Security Superintendent of the Railway Department when contacted by the Daily News in Kurunegala yesterday.
