Sri Jayawardenepura takes on Kotte Thomians in 12th one-day encounter

The 12TH one-day cricket encounter between the two historical schools from the new capital of Sri Jayawardenepura, Kotte - Sri Jayawardenepura College (former Christian College, Kotte) and St. Thomas’ College Kotte for the late Dr. G. N. Perera Memorial Trophy will be played tomorrow (Sunday) at St. Peter’s College grounds, Bambalapitiya with the match commencing at 9.30 am.

This year Sri Jayawardenepura College are celebrating their Centenary in cricket having commenced in 1919.

Sri Jayawardenepura College is led by fourth year coloursman Kanishka Madushanka. The college has played 12 matches in the Division 2 won two outright wins and six first innings wins and qualified to play in the 50 overs cricket tournament organized by the Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Association.

The batting line up is spearheaded by Chamod Supun who has scored 600 runs while last year’s skipper Buddhika Chaminda has scored 500 runs. Pacemen Sampath Nissanka has bagged 55 wickets and Rishith Ishara 33 wickets and are bound to trouble the Kotte Thomians.

Kotte Thomians will be led by third year coloursman Sachintha Shehan William. The Thomians in their division 2 matches have won three outright and three on first innings. The batting line up will be strengthen by Ashen Chamuditha and Aithya Suriyabandara who have individually scored 800 runs each. Jehan James and Manuja Nayanajith have taken 50 and 30 wickets respectively.

This year’s limited overs match is organised by the Old Boy’s Association of St. Thomas’ College, Kotte. Kotte Thomians have won 7 matches and Jayapurians 4 matches in the 11 matches played so far.
