GMOA warns of union action

The Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) has decided to resort to islandwide trade union action against the non-inclusion of any budget proposal submitted, GMOA Secretary Dr. Haritha Aluthge said.

Speaking at a press conference at the GMOA headquarters in Colombo yesterday, he said trade union action will be taken with the Joint Committee of Executive Officers. People will be educated on the injustice caused by the Budget presented to Parliament recently.

The nature of the trade union action will be declared to the government and to the country after two weeks, after further discussions with the Joint Committee of Executive Officers. Thereafter arrangements will be made to take union action, he said.

The GMOA presented six proposals for the Budget, but none of them have been considered. The GMOA will continue to pressurise authorities to formulate a National Allowance Policy which is essential to ensure an equal and justifiable allowance system for the public sector, he said.
