Key highlights of Budget 2019

An allocation of Rs 400 million to improve lavatories and toilet sanitation across the country.

 Customised vehicle number plates for Rs 1 mn.

 Revision of economic service charge (ESC) on selected imported goods.

 Finance Minister invites diaspora and others to donate to the “Palmyra Fund” to develop war torn areas in the country.

Rs 1.5 billion to be allocated to purchase 250 new buses for the Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB)

 Royalty payments for artistes to be implemented enabling artistes to receive royalties for their creations which are aired on television and radio.

 Rs 50 million to be allocated for the growing of mangroves in an attempt to mitigate climate change effects.

 The Rate of Housing Rent Allowance paid in the month of January 2019 will be increased by 100% with effect from July 01, 2019.

 Rs. 5,000 million allocated for the Light Rail Project from Colombo Fort to Malabe which will commence work in 2019.

 Rs 32 billion to be allocated for development of school infrastructure and Rs 25 billion for development of university infrastructure.
