Late Prof. Paranavithana’s Sigiriya rest house

Available for tourists on request

The historic rest house at Sigiriya used by the late Archaeological Commissioner General Prof. Senarath Paranavithana during his expeditions to Sigiriya to unravel the Sigiri Graffiti, is now available on request to local and foreign tourists for a stay over during their visits to the rock fortress.

Any tourist wishing to use it could now do so by making prior reservations with the Archaeological Department head office in Colombo, the Archaeological officer in charge of the Sigiriya Zone G. Nilaprem said.

The wattle and daub rest house with a cadjan roof had been used by the late Prof. Paranavithana during his visits to Sigiriya to unravel its mysteries for nearly 25 years.

It has been refurbished by relaying the cadjan roof to enable tourists to use the same furniture, including the bed, chairs and other items used by the late Professor which have been preserved intact to provide a novel experience.
