LEOU strike today

An indefinite strike will be launched by the Locomotive Engine Operators’ Union (LEOU) from midnight today against the decision made by railway officials to recruit 12 engine drivers who were above 45.

LEOU Secretary Indika Dodangoda said this is a total violation of the recruitment procedure of engine drivers to the Sri Lanka Railways.

He said the recruitment age limit for engine driver is 45 and there is no urgent requirement currently for additional engine drivers.

“We will continue our strike until the illegal recruitments are resolved and we express our regret over the inconvenience that would be faced by the people as a result of the strike,” he said.
