‘War heroes born of bravery, not orders’

The army is a place where heroes are born, and at this hour, Sri Lanka needs heroes, Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (VIR) Colonel Major General Ajith Kariyakarawana said.

He said that heroes were not born of orders, nor could they be created by force; they could only arise through bravery and dedication. The Major General was speaking at a special ceremony held to commemorate the fallen war heroes of the 303 Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment, last Sunday morning.

Highlighting the 29-year history of the VIR, Major General Kariyakarawana said that everyone should remember the war heroes who sacrificed their lives so that the nation could be free. Deputy Army Chief of Staff Major General Chandana Gunawardena, Vijayabahu Regiment Centre Commandant Brigadier Srinath Ariyasinghe, Deputy VIR Centre Commandant Colonel Nalin Bandaranayake and Army Volunteer Force Recruitment Director Colonel Keerthi Wijeratne were also present at the event.
