Colombo Central Vice Division uncovered an illegal cigarette smuggling ring following the arrest of a Sri Lanka Air Force officer with over 8000 foreign cigarettes yesterday.
A police team led by Division OIC Inspector Pathum Kumara arrested the suspect while transporting the stock in a vehicle at Technical junction.
Police sources said that these illegal cigarettes were packed in sealed boxes and were being transported to an Air Force base in the Polonnaruwa district. The suspect was granted Police bail and he is to be produced in court on Thursday.
