Old Bens meet Maligawatte in SLSMA final

The much awaited grand final of the annual (Over 40) soccer tournament between defending champions Old Bens Veterans and Maligawatte Veterans will be played on Sunday (24 February) at the City Football league Complex, commencing 4.30 p.m.

The tournament is conducted by the Sri Lanka Soccer Masters Association for the 9th year under the able guidance of its founder president and incumbent president Thilak Peiris.

Old Bens Veterans is captained by Roshan Rameez and Mahesh Dushantha will skipper Maligawatte Veterans.

For the first time in Sri Lanka an over 60 exhibition match between Colombo and Outstation teams will be played at 3.30 pm. Some former national players will be seen in action to bring back past memories of the game.

This year the winners will receive the SLSMA Challenge Trophy, sponsored by McLarens Containers (Pvt) Ltd., with a cash prize of Rs.100,000/-. The winners will also receive a trophy presented in memory of late Neville Abeygunawardena (founder-secretary of SLSMA) and gold medals. Runner-up will receive a cash prize of Rs.50,000/-, a trophy presented in memory of late K.K. Chandradasa (past president of SLSMA) and silver medals.

The Valuable Player will receive a cash prize of Rs.10,000/- and a trophy presented in memory of late J.P.N. Fernando (past general secretary of SLSMA).

The Best Goal Keeper will receive a cash prize of Rs.10,000/- and a trophy presented in memory of late T.K. Edward Silva (past vice president of SLSMA).

In the semifinals Maligawatte Veterans beat Super Stars Veterans 1-0 and Old Bens Veterans beat Cooray Park Veterans 1-0.

Harsha de Siva (Managing Director) McLarens Containers (Pvt) Ltd will grace the occasion as chief guest.
