Two in cash robbery case acquitted

Panadura High Court Judge Dhamith Thotawatte, concluding a 12-year-old trial of a cash robbery case, acquitted the two accused as the prosecution had not proved the indictment against the two accused.

Ingiriya Police was accused of not conducting proper investigations into the robbery. The two accused were arrested by Ambilitiya Police and handed over to Ingiriya Police on suspicion that they had committed a cash robbery of Rs 2.1 million from a cashier of a garment factory in Ingiriya in 2007.

The accused are K. G. Suresh Kumara and Tharanga Laksiri of Ingiriya. They were arrested while allegedly transporting the cash bag with another employee in a car.

The accused were acquitted on February 20.
