JUDGE BANDULA LIKELY TO BE ELEVATED TO CA

The Constitutional Council has approved Mt.Lavinia Civil Appellate High Court Judge Nishshanka Bandula Karunarathna’s nomination yesterday.

He is likely to be appointed to the Court of Appeal by the President. Justice Karunarathna was enrolled to the Bar in October 1985 and entered the judiciary in November 1988 and was appointed High Court Judge in 2008. Having completed his education at Royal College, Colombo, Justice Karunarathna entered Law College to join the legal fraternity. In 2006, Justice Karunarathna was admitted to the Bar as a Barrister and Solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand.

During the career spanned over three decades he also served as Senior Legal aid Counsel in the Legal Affairs Ministry in the Republic of Zambia and later also acted in the capacity of Principal Litigation Counsel in the office of the Attorney General in Nairobi-Kenya.
