Pilgrims to Jerusalem turned back

The Israel Government has deported a group of Sri Lankan’s on a pilgrimage to Jerusalem.

According to sources 43 pilgrims had arrived at the Katunayake airport on an Indian Airlines flight on Wednesday and ten others had arrived yesterday.

Another 18 people had been sent back yesterday evening and they are expected to arrive today.

The deported pilgrims are residents of Kuliyapitiya, Wennapuwa and Mirigama.

Katunayake airport officials have handed over the deported pilgrims to the Criminal Investigations Department and intelligence authorities for investigations.

The intelligence officials are probing why the pilgrims were sent back and whether they have violated the Immigration and Emigration laws of Israel.
