Alleged abduction, killing of 11 youths:

Admiral Karannagoda, a no show at CID

Former Navy Commander Admiral Wasantha Karannagoda did not turn up at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to give a statement in connection with the alleged abduction and killing of 11 youths citing that the letter summoning him to the CID had not properly delivered to his address.

A CID official said that the letter was addressed to his residence at Kirulapone. However, his brother has informed department officials that he no longer occupies the house.

CID summoned Karannagoda for questioning in to the alleged abduction and killing of 11 youths in Trincomalee in 2008 and 12 Navy personnel, including a Commodore were arrested from time to time in connection with these murders.

Investigations confirmed that these youths had been abducted in Colombo and detained by a secret operation unit operating under the Sri Lanka Navy.

They had been brought to Trincomalee where they were killed and bodies allegedly thrown into sea.

Department officials summoned Karannagoda to the CID to question him and ascertain whether he was aware of this abduction and whether he had aided and abetting these murders.
