The first copy of the Neethiya - 28th Anniversary Volume, the only Law Journal in Sinhala to be published uninterrupted for 28 years was presented to Chief Justice Nalin Perera in his Chambers at the Supreme Court yesterday.

Commenced in 1990 as a News letter, its inaugural issue was launched by the then Chief Justice, Parinda Ranasinghe. It was thereafter up-graded to a fully fledged Law Journal with its 10th Anniversary Issue in 2000. Due to the dirth of legal publications in Sinhala “Neethiya” has been in demand among the legal community, including practitioners, academics, judges, law students, law enforcement officers and others interested in the law.

The present Volume too is enriched with articles on a variety of topics on the law written by specialists, well - prepared notes on recent court decisions and statutes, legal news (both local and foreign, the latter being a novel feature included mainly for the benefit of outstation lawyers), tables of cases and other contents. The total costs of Neethiya since its inception has been met solely by its Patron, Upali A. Gooneratne PC.

It will be available primarily at the offices of Neethiya Foundation and of the Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) and at the latter’s Book Shop in the District Court building in Hulftsdorp.
