‘Wonder Woman 3’ will be a ‘contemporary story’

Director Patty Jenkins has stated ‘Wonder Woman 3’ will be a “contemporary story”. The first ‘Wonder Woman’ film under her helm was set in World War I, while the sequel, 2020’s ‘Wonder Woman 1984’, will take place in the ‘80s.

Jenkins explained that she did not think the third film in the series would follow suit in terms of being set in the past. “I’m not set, but I’m not dying to do another period piece,” she said.

“It’s definitely one of the things we talked about,” she said of setting a film in the future. “I’m not planning to put it in the past again, because where are you going to go? You have to go forward. It’s definitely a contemporary story. That’s all I can say. Where we put it and how that gets figured out, I haven’t totally nailed down.” The director also spoke about fans’ wants for her to direct a ‘Justice League’ film. I find those movies to be extremely challenging,” she said. “I think they are fantastic when they are well done. But taking on all of those characters at the same time in the timeline…”

‘Wonder Woman 1984’ will now be released in summer 2020, after it was originally scheduled for November 2019. Gal Gadot will return to play the titular superhero, while Kristen Wiig will join the cast as villain Cheetah.
