HASHIM GIVES STATEMENT AT PCoI

Highways, Road Development and Petroleum Resources Development Minister Kabir Hashim was at the Presidential Commission of Inquiry (PCoI) on SriLankan Airlines, SriLankan Catering and Mihin Lanka to provide a statement yesterday.

Hashim, who was the former Public Enterprise Development Minister had given a statement before the PCoI Police Investigation Unit on several matters relating to SriLankan Airlines’ Strategic Business Plan 2010/11- 2014/15, the selection process of the International Consultancy Service to review it, the A350 aircraft lease agreement cancellation and a few others which took place between 2015 to 2018 period, Commission sources told Daily News.

However, PCoI Secretary Ariyadasa Cooray denied media reports that Minister Hashim testified before the commission yesterday. Minister Hashim told the DailyNews that the Investigation unit recorded a statement from him for close to three hours.

He will be summoned before the Presidential Commission on a future date for the testimony.

The Minister said that he did not know when would he be summoned and was ready to testify before the PCoI anytime.

The Commission of Inquiry on SriLankan Airlines, SriLankan Catering and Mihin Lanka was appointed by President Maithripala Sirisena last year to look into the Malpractices in those companies between January 1, 2006 and January 31, 2018 period. The Commission is due to complete proceedings on May 30, 2019.

Minister Kabir Hashim has arrived at the Presidential Commission Commission to investigate the corruption allegations at the SriLankan Airlines and Mihin Lanka.

The Commission of Inquiry on SriLankan Airlines, SriLankan Catering Ltd and Mihin Lanka Private Limited was appointed by President Maithripala Sirisena on January 31, 2018 to look into the malpractices at those institutions during the January 1, 2006 to January 31, 2018 period, was investigating from February 14th.

Retired Supreme Court Judge Anil Gunaratne functions as the Chairman of the Commission.
