Alleged abduction of Rathgama businessmen:IP arrested

Officer in charge of the Southern Province Special Investigation Unit Inspector Nishantha De Silva was arrested yesterday in connection with the alleged abduction of two businessmen in Rathgama, Galle.

Police sources said that the Inspector was arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department officials investigating into the alleged abduction case at the office of Galle Superintendent of Police. This Inspector had allegedly used a van obtained from a businessman in Akmeemana to abduct these businessmen.

 The investigators also succeeded in recovering the van from Galle.

It was revealed during investigations that one of businessmen has allegedly died at the hands of Police. He had allegedly been assaulted and tourtured. The other businessman had allegedly been killed to cover up the first death.

Investigators have uncovered that a police team is allegedly involved in the dual murder over personal reasons.

This Police unit operating directly under the supervision of the Southern Province Senior DIG is located at Eliyakanda, Matara and these killings had allegedly taken place in a nearby building.

These two businessmen were allegedly abducted by a group Police officers wielding arms on January 22, citing that they were required for an investigation.
