Woman sailor commits suicide

A 22-year-old woman sailor had reportedly committed suicide in her house in Uragasmanhandiya claiming that she was harassed by another woman officer in the camp.

The sailor attached to the Sri Lanka Navy's Dakshina camp in Galle had been on vacation and was to report to the camp for duty yesterday morning (17).

Police had found her body hanging in her room on Friday evening.

A letter which stated that she was harassed by a senior female officer and that she was under trauma and fear, believed to be written by her was also found by police.

The relatives of the victim have called for an independent inquiry to further probe the death.
