Writ petitions challenging nominations for SLC election filed

Two Writ petitions have been filed in the Court of Appeal challenging the rejection of nominations submitted by Mohan de Silva and Raveen Wickremeratne for the post of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) Presidency and Vice Presidency respectively.

Filing these petitions, Mohan de Silva and Raveen Wickremeratne are seeking an order to quash the decision of Sports Minister who rejected the nomination papers they submitted for the post of SLC Presidency and Vice Presidency respectively.

When the petitions came up before Court of Appeal (Acting President) Justice Deepali Wijesundera and Justice Arjuna Obeysekera, the matter was fixed for support on February 20.

Additional Solicitor General Sanjay Rajaratnam appearing for the Attorney General sought another date to support the application since respondents have been not served with notices.

The Court was informed that the Sports authorities have fixed for February 21 to conduct the election to elect the office bearers of SLC.
