Two arrested for taking photographs on top of Chetiya

Two persons who had climbed a Chetiya within the Mihintale Raja Maha Viharaya sacred temple ruins last afternoon and were taking photographs, were arrested by the Archaeology Department officials and handed over to the Mihintale Police.

The two suspects have been identified as 20-year-old Rasith Mohommed Jibri, a resident of Latif Road, Muttur and 18-year-old Jalaldeen Ripney Ahmed, a resident of Neidharnagar, Muttur 01.

They were expected to be produced in court yesterday (15) as per the provisions of the Archaeology Act, while further investigations are being carried out by the Mihintale Police.
