Cabinet Decisions

1. National Chronic Kidney Disease Prevention Programme

The Presidential Task Force on Prevention of Chronic Kidney Disease has been setup with the intention of stamping out Chronic Kidney Disease that has been reported in various parts of the country. Prevention programmes were conducted with the participation of different Ministries and Departments through an integrated approach. With the view of achieving further targets, the programme is scheduled to be carried out in 2019 and an Annual Action Plan has also been prepared. The Cabinet of Ministers approved the proposal presented by President Maithripala Sirisena to secure funds to implement this Annual Action Plan was approved by the cabinet of Ministers.

2. Settlement of payments pertaining to rehabilitation and reconstruction activities in the areas damaged due to Flood and Landslides.

The Cabinet of Ministers approved the proposal presented by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremeisnghe to provide funds to the respective District Secretaries enabling them to settle unsettled payments pertaining to rehabilitation and reconstruction activities in the areas damaged by floods and landslides.

3. Implementation of a project to improve Domestic Gas Status in Sri Lanka

The Cabinet of Ministers approved the proposal presented by President Maithripala Sirisena in his capacity as the Minister of Mahaweli Development and Environment to implement a three year 2019-2021 pilot programme to minimise Health

impacts caused by air pollutants.

4.Container Freight Observation and Supervision System for Sri Lanka Customs

The Department of Sri Lanka Customs clears 1,115 to L,450 import-loaded containers and 350 to 450 export loaded containers a day. It has been proposed to introduce modern technical equipment to freight supervision and modern security devices to ensure security of the containers. The Cabinet of Ministers approved the proposal presented by Finance and Mass Media Minister Mangala Samaraweera to commence procurement procedures to select a supplier for this purpose.

5. Project to Minimise Landslide Hazard

It has been planned to implement a project to minimise landslide hazard using stable prevention strategies. The first phase of this project is planned to cover 27 places which has high landslide hazard and the second phase is planned to cover 120 places with high landslide Hazard.

The Cabinet of Ministers approved the proposal presented by Finance and Mass Media Minister Mangala Samaraweera to secure funds for the implementation of this project with USD 110 million investment.

6. Science and Technology Human Resources Development Proiect

It has been planned to setup Faculties of Technology at the Kelaniya, Sri Lanka Rajarata and Sri Lanka Sabaragamuwa Universities and Faculty of Engineering in the University of Sri Jayawardhanapura. This will provide higher education facilities for 830 students a year. Hakeem to provide modern facilities for students including building complexes with an investment of Rs.26,400 million.

7. Land Acquisition for Weliwita Water Supply Project

The Cabinet of Ministers approved the proposal presented by Science and Technology, City planning for Human Resourced Development Project, Water Supply and Higher Education Minister Rauff Hakeem to acquire lands for the construction of Thulumuluwa Water Treatment Plant, Hokandara Underground Reservoir and Jaywadanagama Pump House.

8.Revising Power of Attorney Ordinance

The Cabinet of Ministers approved the combined proposal presented by Internal and Home Affairs, Provincial Council and Local Government Minister Wajira Abeywardhana and Justice and Prison Reforms Minister Thalatha Athukorala to present to Parliament the Bill to revise Power of Attorney Ordinance prepared by the Legal Draftsman.

9.Geographical lnvestigations for detailed Basic Engineering Design for Kelani Flood Protection wall

The Cabinet of Ministers approved the proposal presented by Agriculture, Rural Economic Affairs, Livestock Development, Irrigation, Fisheries and Water Resources Minister P. Harrison to accomplish geographical lnvestigations required for detailed engineering design of the proposed Kelani Flood Protection Wall by the National Building Research lnstitute.

10.Hosting the Commonwealth Association of legislative Council

The Cabinet of Ministers approved the proposal presented Justice and Prison Reforms Minister Thalaltha Athukorala to provide necessary facilities to host the said conference.

11. Contract for the construction of Earthquake Tsunami Observation Centre and Laboratory Building for Geotogical Survey and Mines Bureau.

The Cabinet of Ministers approved the proposal presented by President Maithripala Sirisena in his capacity as the Minister of Mahaweli Development and Environment to award the above contract to Central Engineering Services (Pvt. Ltd) for Rs. 383.2 million.

12. Making Monitory Operations Efficient in the Central Bank of Sri Lanka

The Cabinet of Ministers approved the proposal presented by Finance and Mass Media Minister Mangala Samaraweera to implement the project to make monitory operations efficient in the central Bank of Sri Lanka.

13. Project to improve at Anuradhapura and Mannnarama Grid Substations (Document No.76)

The Cabinet of Ministers approved the proposal presented by Power, Energy and Business Development Minister Ravi Karunanayaka to award the above contract to Siemens Ltd. and DIMO (Pvt) Ltd Group upon the recommendation of Standing Procurement Committee appointed by the Cabinet of Ministers.

14. New Building Complex for Gampaha District Secretariat

The Cabinet of Ministers approved the proposal presented by Internal and Home Affairs and Provincial Councils and Local Government Minister Wajira Abeywardhana to award the contract for the construction of new building complex for the Gampaha District Secretariat to Sunken Constructions (Pvt) Ltd. for Rs.3,054.2 million.

15. The Cabinet of Ministers approved the proposal presented by Megapolis and Western Development Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka to setup sanitary facilities for the benefit of tourists and local devotees under a cost of Rs. 50 million.

16.Improving and widening 2 Kms in Matara - Hakmana Road

The Cabinet of Ministers approved the proposal presented by Highways, Road Developmnt and Petroleum Resources Development Minister Kabeer Hasheem to develop the first 2 Km on the Matara - Hakmana Road at a cost of Rs. 869 million.

17. Construction of a Bypass Road in Ratnapura Town

The Cabinet of Ministers approved the proposal presented by Highways, Road Developmnt and Petroleum Resources Development Minister Kabeer Hasheem to construct 2.2 Km bypass way from Veralupe to the Warakathota Bridge and to build three 900 metre long bridges.

18. Gravity, Gravity Sequential, Magnetic Researches to explore Oil and Natural Gases in Mannar and Cauvery Basin.

The Cabinet of Ministers approved the proposal presented by Highways,Road Development and Petroleum Resources Minister Kabeer Hasheem to award this contract to Bell Geospace Ltd. upon the recommendations of a Cabinet appointed negotiation Committee.

Upgrade Rural Youth through Young Farmer Co-operative Village programme.

The Cabinet of Ministers approved the proposal presented by Housing, Construction and Cultural Affairs Minister Sajith Premadasa to provide 15 perch lands and 40 perch lands for cultivations for unmarried persons as an encouragement to get their contribution to National Economy through Co-operative Village programme.

19. Conduct the Regional Conference of Sustainable Sanitary Solutions

The Cabinet of Ministers considered the facts presented by the Hon. Rauff Hakeem Minister of city Planning, water supply and Higher Education regarding the conference to be held in Colombo on 21 to 23 February 2019.

20. Provide Rapid Relieves to Small and Medium level Mill Owners

The Cabinet of Ministers approved the proposal presented by President Maithripala Sirisena to introduce a system to avoid difficulties that these mill owners have to face by providing fund through the members of District Co-operative Societies to purchase paddy from farmer.

Suspension of importing Spices using various methods to resolve the problems risen in the lndustry of Local Spices and associated products.

The Cabinet of Ministers approved the proposal presented by Development Strategies and International Trade Minister MaliK Samarawickarama to suspend importing spices in various ways and to avoid re-export these products as Sri Lankan products.
