NEXUS BETWEEN DIG NALAKA and MADUSH

CID SEEKS INTERPOL HELP IN PROBE:



The Criminal Investigations Department will seek Interpol assistance to record statements from drug kingpin Makandure Madush and singer Amal Perera to ascertain their connection with former Terrorism Investigation Division (TID) Director, DIG Nalaka de Silva.

CID Inspector Ranjith Munasinghe said so when the magisterial inquiry into the plot to assassinate President Maithripala Sirisena and former Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa and SSP Prasanna Alwis was taken up before Colombo Fort Magistrate Ranga Dissanayake.

Former DIG Nalaka de Silva has been allegedly accused of plotting to assassinate President Maithripala Sirisena and former Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa and SSP Prasanna Alwis.

The CID further stated that they have received information to support the association between singer Amal Perera and DIG Nalaka Silva.The CID also stated that they will make necessary arrangements to record statements from drug kingpin Makandure Madush and singer Amal Perera.

The CID also stated that they have already recorded statements from MP Namal Rajapaksa, MP Wimal Weerawansa, MP Weerawansa’s wife Shashi Weerawansa and National Freedom Party spokesman Mohommed Muzammil regarding the Indian National.

The Magistrate ordered the CID to submit a report explaining the circumstance which led to arrest Indian Mersily Thomas regarding this incident. The Magistrate observed that the Indian national could be definitely released from the case unless CID produced substantial evidence against him.

The CID further informed court there was no evidence against Thomas but they were still conducting further investigations regarding him.

The Magistrate emphasised that the liberty of an individual cannot be curtailed owing to an investigation relating to this alleged assassination plot targeting the President. Attorney Ajith Pathirana appearing on behalf of DIG Nalaka Silva informed court that the CID cannot commence an investigation into an assassination without arresting Anti-Corruption Movement Operations Director Namal Kumara. Attorney Pathirana also pleaded his client be granted bail.

Colombo Fort Magistrate Ranga Dissanayake ordered to remand former Terrorism Investigation Division (TID) Director DIG Nalaka de Silva and Indian National Mersily Thomas till February 27.

The Criminal Investigations Department today informed Colombo Fort Magistrate that they are seeking the assistance of Interpol to record statements from Drug kingpin Makandure Madush and singer Amal Perera in order to ascertain their connection with former Terrorism Investigation Division (TID) Director DIG Nalaka de Silva.
