Doctor shortage at Hambantota hospital

The OPD patients of the Hambantota General Hospital are inconvenienced due to the acute shortage of doctors.

The hospital caters to patients in Hambantota, Ambalantota, Suriyawewa, Lunugamwehera, Thanamalwila, Weerawila, Sevanagala, Ridiyagama and Beragama.

Queues of patients can be seen daily at the OPD and some patients return home without being treated.

Only two doctors serve the OPD patients whereas at least five should be on duty.

When queried about the plight of the hospital, Director Dr. Ravindra Abeysooriya said the number of doctors needed had not been provided although authorities have been informed about it.
