Seven Indian fishermen held for poaching

The Trincomalee Magistrate’s Court yesterday remanded six of the seven Indian nationals, who entered Sri Lankan waters illegally, until February 21.

Trincomalee Acting Magistrate M. B. Ansha remanded six fishermen while an underage fisherman was ordered to be kept under the care of the Probation Department.

The seven had been fishing in Sri Lankan waters when they were taken into custody by Navy officials.

The two-engine boat and other equipment seized from the suspects were handed over to the Navy.

The issue was informed to the Indian High Commissioner in Sri Lanka.

Trincomalee Police are investigating.
