Case against Ratwatte fixed for March 25

The case filed against six individuals, including Chanuka Ratwatte, for allegedly carrying on a finance business named Entrust Limited and accepting deposits without authority, was fixed for March 25 by the Colombo High Court, yesterday.

When the case came up before High Court Judge Gihan Kulatunga, the sixth accused, Isira Dharmapriya, was not present in court.

The court was informed that he was receiving treatment for an illness. However, he was represented by a counsel and the surety.

The Attorney-General had filed indictments against Thirunganam Kanagasabe, Chanuka Ratwatte, Rumesha Dushyanthi Seneviratne, Sanjeewa Dayaratne, Niroshan Mendis, and Isira Dharmapriya Bandara Dasanayake for violating Section 2(2), 2(4), and 56(1) of the Finance Business Act No. 42 of 2011.

The sixth accused, Isira Dharmapriya Bandara Dasanayake, had been functioning as the Chairman of the company, while Chanuka Ratwatte, son of former Deputy Defence Minister, late Anuruddha Ratwatte, had functioned as one of its directors.

On a previous occasion, Udayasiri Kariyawasam, who had been named as the seventh accused, was ordered to be released from the case following an application by Counsel Sampath Mendis.

Senior Counsel Harshana Nanayakkara and Counsel Sampath Mendis appeared for the accused.
