Gota asked by court to be punctual

The Colombo Permanent High Court-at-Bar yesterday advised former Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa to be present in court on time in connection with the D. A. Rajapaksa Museum case.

The Trial-at-Bar Bench comprising High Court Judges Sampath Abeykoon (President), Sampath Wijeratne and Champa Janaki Rajaratne made this direction pursuant to a request made by Deputy Solicitor General Dileepa Peiris.

Former Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa yesterday arrived in court about 10 minutes later than the scheduled time (9.30 am).

DSG Peiris informed court on a previous occasion Defence Counsel appearing for the accused had made a request to release the accused from the case since the State Counsel were not present in court on time. “I am too making a request that the accused be advised to be present in court on time”, said Peiris.

However, prior to the commencement of the court proceedings, President’s Counsel Romesh de Silva appearing for Gotabaya Rajapaksa informed that his client was unable to present in court on time owing to severe traffic congestion, when he was heading to the courts.

Taking into to consideration the facts, the Permanent High Court-at-Bar advised the accused to be present in court on time.
