Commander of the Navy visits Northern Naval Command

Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Piyal De Silva made a visit to the Northern Naval Command on 08th and 09th February. Commander Northern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Merril Wickramasinghe warmly received the Navy Commander to the Northern Naval Command.

Vice Admiral Silva initially paid homage to the Nagadeepa Purana Raja Maha Viharaya on 08th February and called on the Chief Incumbent and Chief Sanga Nayake of Northern Province, Praveenacharya most venerable Navandagala Paduma Kiththi Tissa Nayaka Thero and received the blessings. Subsequently, the Navy Commander made an inspection visit to the radar centre of SLNS Wasaba located on the Delft Island and addressed the naval personnel attached to it. Thereupon, Vice Admiral Silva paid a visit to the Naval Sewing Centre of SLNS Wasaba where he was warmly welcomed by its staff members. Having attended welcoming rituals of the sewing centre staff, the Navy Commander also addresses them during his brief stay. The staff members presented a gift to the Navy Commander on this occasion. Marking the last event of the first day itinerary, Vice Admiral Silva called on the His Lordship Rt. Revd. Dr. Justin Bernard Gnanapragasam, the Bishop of Jaffna to look into the wellbeing and receive his blessings.

The second day of the visit (09th February) got off to a start, planting a mango sapling by the Navy Commander at the Navy House premises at SLNS Uththara. Subsequently, the division encompassed naval personnel of ships, craft and establishments belonging to the Northern Naval Command, was inspected by the Navy Commander. Thereupon all officers attached to the command were addressed at the Command Wardroom. Next, Vice Admiral Silva was briefed on the role of the Northern Naval Command during a meeting held at the Command Conference Hall before he made an inspection visit to the fleet of the Northern Naval Command. The Navy Chief also addressed the naval personnel attached to the fleet during this visit. Finally, he posed for a group photograph marking the end of his visit to the Northern Naval Command.

These occasions were also attended by all Heads of the Departments and Commanding Officers attached to the Northern Naval Command.
