GMOA endorses Deputy Minister Buddhika Pathirana’s claim

The Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) agrees with the statement made by Industry and Commerce Deputy Minister Buddhika Pathirana in Parliament recently that imported milk powder contains pork fat, GMOA Secretary Dr. Haritha Aluthge said.

He was addressing a press conference at the GMOA Head Quarters in Colombo yesterday afternoon.

He said the GMOA will support any action that Deputy Minister Pathirana to take in this regard. The GMOA will meet the Deputy Minister soon with more facts, he said.

Dr. Aluthge said the GMOA has presented 10 proposals to the Government about milk powder in 2013. The GMOA opposed the low quality of imported milk powder from the beginning and as a result, the authorities detected melamine and DCD among others from the imported milk powder.

Thereafter, the public started to consume local milk powder. It benefitted the public and local milk powder manufacturers, Dr. Aluthge said.
