Increase ministerial portfolio will bring no benefit to people – UPA

Former Sri Lanka Muslim Congress stalwart Hasen Ali who formed the United People’s Alliance with Basheer Segu Dawood said that it would be a pointless exercise to increase the number of ministerial portfolio’s in this quest to form a national government, as it would bring no benefit to the general public.

“The talk of forming a national government is limited to increasing the number of ministerial portfolio which will not bring any benefit to the country. These decisions will only benefit the individuals who receive portfolio and serve their vested interests.” he said.

Hasen Ali echoed sentiments of President Maithripala Sirisena who in his address during the 71st Independence Day ceremony said that he too opposed to forming a new national government with a party that has only one seat in parliament.

He said that it was not fair to form a national government just to give more ministerial portfolios. “We should move away from the practice of concentrating on one’s political camp and thinking of political aspirations,” the President said.
