‘Many of Aava group abroad’

A large number of members of the Aaava group have migrated to foreign countries, according to the senior DIG North Roshan Fernando.

At a press conference in Jaffna, the senior DIG had those behind the activities of the Aaava group have placed their members in several secure places in a number of foreign countries. However, a handful of members are still active in the country and police have launched a special operation to apprehend them.

The number of activities of the group has been reduced due to the lower number of their cadres. Members of the public in Jaffna had given much information on the group to the Police Department, he said.

The police expects the support of the public in future too and will not reveal the identity of any person who provides such information, senior DIG Fernando said.

A large quantity of Kerala cannabis located by police in the North recently was due to the information given by public, he also said.
