Freedom which is the result of the self sacrifice made by great men brings happiness and pride to a country, society and the individual. At this moment, when we celebrate national freedom with the these feelings, we need to have a proper understanding about the challenges we ought to overcome, states Speaker Karu Jayasuriya in a National Independence Day message.
The message further states that it was through such a process that we could bestow honour to the heroes who laid down their lives to obtain freedom and bestow a free and prosperous nation to the future generation.
The message further said that a strong foundation should be laid particularly to face challenges caused by constant climate change. Lasting economic prosperity had to gained by seeking new directions in a creative manner.
A time had come when all social forces should combine for a countrywide operation to eradicate the drug menace on National Independence Day “I sincerely hope that the entire Sri Lankan nation would resolve to achieve these targets which could not be neglected”.
