The maximum number of students in a Grade One class should be 37

With the policy decision taken by the Education Ministry to reduce the congestion in classes, the maximum number of students in a Grade One class in this year should be 37, Education Minister Akila Wiraj Kariyawasam said.

The Ministry has taken a policy decision to reduce the number of student in a Grade One class to 35 by 2021.

The Minister said decision is not properly taking place in certain schools as a result of political influences and several other reasons. The Minister highlighted everyone in the education sector is responsible and duty bound to carry out the national level decisions.

According to this decision taken in 2016, each year one student each is reduced aiming to come to the targeted amount of 35 by 2021.
