Heroin traffickers held

Two drug dealers who were involved in smuggling heroin on a very large scale, were nabbed by Dambulla Police at a police checkpoint on Wednesday night.

The two suspects were arrested close to the Devahoowa area in Dambulla on a tip-off received by Dambulla Police.

The suspects were identified as Karunasinhage Asanka Dilruk Jayawardana and Pathiraja Mudiyanselaage Rajapaksa, residents of Devahoowa in Pangala.

The suspects were said to be trafficking drugs in Dambulla, Galewela, and Kekirawa.

Police also seized several packets of heroin hidden in the steering wheel of their car, at the time of arrest.

The raid was done with the help of the Police Kennels division in Dambulla. Police dog Molly helped them detect the drugs in the steering wheel of the car. Both suspects were to be produced before the Dambulla Magistrate yesterday by Dambulla Police.

Police are seeking a detention order to be able to interrogate the suspects thoroughly.

The suspects were said to evading arrest for some time and had allegedly been involved in many criminal activities, especially in the Kandy Police division.
