Rs. 700 mn to expand Uva school facilities

The Education Ministry has approved Rs. 700,000,000 to be used in expanding infrastructure facilities at government schools in the Uva Province, said Uva Provincial Education Minister and Provincial Chief Minister Chamara Sampath Dasanayaka at Mahiyanganaya, recently.

The ministry allocated Rs. 200,000,000 and Rs. 400,000,000 earlier for a two-year period, he added.

A range of facilities has been added to several government schools in the province, using the funds, Dasanayaka said.

A lot of effort has gone in to guarantee greater transparency and accountability when carrying out projects approved for schools picked under the Langama Pasala Hondama Pasala programme, he said.

Projects have been launched at the Bandaranaike Maha Vidyalaya at Mapakadawewa, Andaulpotha Jathika Pasala at Rideemaliyadda, Rathkinda Vidyalaya at Rathkinda, Dehigolla Maha Vidyalaya at Dehigolla and Siddhartha Prathamika Vidyalaya at Mahiyanganaya, Dasanayaka said.
