Prison Sergeant caught smuggling heroin into Welikada Prison

A prison sergeant ,who had attempt to smuggle 20g 260mg of Heroin in to the premises of Welikada prison , was nabbed by a team of prison officers this evening .

The arrest of the suspect prison sergeant, was done by the prison officers , under  the instructions given by the senior superintendant of Welikada Prison T.I. Uduwara and also the chief jailor of Welikada Prison Prasad Prematilaka.   

It was further reported that the prison officers had found Rs 85,000/- and two mobile phones in a locker which used by the suspect prison sergeant.  

However the prison officers had handed over the suspect prison sergeant to the Borella Police Station for further more investigations.

It was further revealed that the Minister of Justice and prison reforms, Thalatha Athukorala had stated, that the  necessary disciplinary actions will be taken against the suspect prison Sergeant  as well as the other officers those who are engaged in such malpractices regardless of their positions or posts.
