Sajin Vass’ trial fixed for March 29

The case filed against former Foreign Ministry Monitoring MP Sajin Vass Gunawardena was fixed for trial by the Colombo Chief Magistrate Lanka Jayarathne.

The case pertains to the alleged causing of a Rs. 883 million unlawful loss to Mihin Lanka while he functioned as its Chief Executive Officer.

Sajin Vass Gunawardena appeared in court yesterday.

On a previous occassion, President Counsel Shaveendra Fernando appearing for MP Gunawardana submitted that written approval of the Bribery Commissioner pertaining to the incident had not been affixed with the file and hearing could not be continued without the Bribery Commissioner’s written approval affixed again.

President Counsel Fernando yesterday pleaded to fix this case for trial. Bribery Commission Assistant Director General Subhashini Siriwardena informed court that they decided to continue with the trial. The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption had filed this case against the former MP under Section 70 of the Bribery Act. After considering all submissions, the Magistrate fixed trial for March 29.
