Admissions to National Colleges of Education:

Ministry to call for applications soon

The Education Ministry is making arrangements to call for applications from those who passed the G.C.E. (A.L.) Examination to be admitted to the National Colleges of Education for 2019 to follow a three-year residential diploma in teaching.

This is as per the instructions of Education Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam. About 19 National Colleges of Education are located countrywide. About 3,500 teacher trainees are admitted to these colleges annually to follow courses.

“The Education Ministry will call for applications early next month through the Government Gazette as more trained teachers are needed at government schools. During the last two years. Teacher trainees were not admitted to National Colleges of Education countrywide. Hence, the intake of teacher trainees may double this year,” said Kurunegala District senior Director of Education W. M. Balasooriya. He was speaking at a meeting of school heads in Kurunegala District at Bingiriya.
