Two soldiers killed in accident

Two Army personnel have been killed and five others have been injured in a motor accident in the Nedunkerny area in Mullaitivu, according to the police.

The deceased persons have been identified to be an Army Major  Asanka Liyanage and Corporal Prematillake who had been returning from attending the Mullaitivu tour of the President.

Those involved in the accident are members of the Commando regiment. The vehicle they were travelling in had skidded off the road and collided with a tree. However the Military Spokesman Brigadier Sumith Atapattu said the cause of the accident was yet to be determined and investigations were underway.

He said of the seven members that were travelling in the vehicle, two had died, while of the five in hospital one is said to be in critical condition.

The injured soldiers are currently receiving treatment at the  Vavuniya Hospital, but their injuries are not life threatening, according to army sources.
