‘SL recorded 2,569 dengue cases last year’

A total of 2,569 dengue cases and two deaths had been reported from all parts of the country, last year, Epidemiology Unit sources said.

They said the highest number of dengue cases, 625, had been reported in Colombo, while the second highest number, 499, had been reported in Jaffna. The third highest number of dengue cases, 283, had been from Batticaloa.

The Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) reported a total of 135 dengue cases during the same period; a total of 490 dengue cases were recorded in the other parts of Colombo. The total number of dengue cases reported from the Western Province was 1,027, they said.

Meanwhile medical experts and Consultants advise the public to seek medical treatment immediately for any type of fever, without applying home remedies.

All fever patients need rest and should not attend work or school.

They should only take Paracetamol. All the other medications, especially non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, they added.
