AVF officers’ children excelled in Exams felicitated

High achievers among the children of Army Volunteer Force (AVF) personnel at the Grade IV Scholarship Examination, GCE (O/L) Examination and GCE (A/L) Examination were appreciated in a ceremony at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH) on January 11.

Army Commander Lieutenant General N. U. M. M. W. Senanayake and Army Sevan Vanitha Unit President Chandrika Senanayake were the chief guests.

The Headquarters of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force (HQSLAVF) organized the event supervised by Deputy Commandant Major General L F Kasthuriarachchi under SLAVF Commandant Major General Rukmal Dias.

Army Chief of Staff Major General Shavendra Silva, Dr. K. A. S. Keeragala, Sri Lankan Insurance Corporation Chairman Chandana Aluthgama, the Chief Executive Officer, invitees and parents of the beneficiaries participated.

The students who excelled in the Grade IV examination received Rs.15, 000.00 and a school bag. The high achievers in the G.C.E (O/L) Examination received Rs. 25,000, Rs. 20,000 and Rs 15,000 according to their results. Monetary grants, gold medals and certificates were awarded as well. Chandrika Senanayake, Dr. K. A. S. Keeragala, Major General Lionel Kasthuriarachchi, Major General Rukmal Dias and Major General Shavendra Silva distributed the grants.

Army Commander Mahesh Senanayake distributed Rs. 50,000, a gold medal and a certificate as incentives for higher education of each student selected to university education.

Ten SLAVF Officers were selected to follow a course at the Defence Services Command and Staff College and they received laptops as well.

Chandrika Senanayake made donations to the Senehasa Education Resource Research and Information Centre (SERRIC). The SERRIC Director received the donations.

Following the awards of the grants to the students, Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake and Mrs Chandrika Senanayake were given away the souvenirs to mark the special occasion of the SLAVF.

The Chief Guest addressing the audience in attendance extended his gratitude to the Commandant and the Deputy Commandant for organizing the ceremony while congratulating the recipients of grants for their prospective academic success.

Sri Lankan artists including Isuru Jayarathne, Ayomi Perera, students of Rathna Lalani Jayakody, Sahan Ranwala (Ranwala Balakaya) along with the artists in the Sri Lanka Army and Children of SERRIC entertained the audience with impressive performances.
