Sirisaranagama, 152nd model village, opened

The 152nd model village under the Semata Sevana Yali Pibidena Uda Gammana Housing programme was vested with the public by Housing, Construction and Cultural Affairs Minister Sajith Premadasa recently.

The model village, Sirisaranagama in Angunakolapelessa, Hambantota, consists of 23 houses and Rs. 21.2 million was spent on its construction. The village is facilitated with drinking water, electricity, and access and internal roads.

Minister Premadsa said 20,000 Uda Gammanas will be set up by the end of 2025.

The Minister said the good governance government has provided housing aids for nearly 332,000 families at a cost of Rs. 26,000 million in the past four years.

“We are planning to set up 2,500 Uda Gammana by September this year. We will complete 5,000 Uga Gammanas by 2020. Another project to set up 10,000 Uda Gammanas covering all districts will be initiated thereafter,” the Minister said.

As many as 2.5 million families (41 per cent) have various housing issues and the government will provide a shelter for each of them by 2025, the Minister said.
