Former OIC indicted for false entries granted bail

Wadduwa Police former OIC, retired IP Nimal Karunaratne was granted a Rs. 20,000 personal bail with two sureties by Panadura Provincial High Court Judge Dhamith Thotawatte on January 18.

He was indicted by the Attorney General for inserting false entries in the Police information book on April 15, 2012 to detain Nimal Chandrasiri of Wadduwa Fisheries Housing Scheme thereby performing his duties recklessly and committing an offence under the Criminal Procedure Code.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge.

He was ordered to report to the CID Headquarters on last Sunday of every month. State Counsel Priyani Abeywardena appeared for the Attorney General and Counsel Sisira Kodikara appeared for the accused.
