Minister hands over letters to Sports Council members

The newly appointed members of the National Sports Council were handed their letters of appointments yesterday by Minister of Sports Harin Fernando at the Duncan White Auditorium Sports Ministry.

Fourteen members received their letters of appointments from the Minister with former Commander of the Sri Lanka Army Daya Ratnayake being appointed as the head of the Council. The Council will serve for a period of two years 2019-20.

They were given these positions in accordance with the Sports Council Act No. 23 of 1975. Their main task will be to advice the Minister on administrative matters and also matters connected to developing sports in the country. The will serve in a voluntary basis as sports lovers.

The Minister addressing the members requested all to work towards the betterment of sports in Sri Lanka and added “all you members are qualified in your respective fields and can serve the sports to reach greater heights in the future”.

Other members who received letters of appointment are Deputy President of Anti Doping Authority Professor Arjuna de Silva, Director General Sports Dhammika Muthugala, Director General National Sports Science Sajith Jayalal, former Director Ministry of Education (Sports) Manjula Kariyawasam, Member of the National Para Games Association Lt. Col D.T.L.S. Karawitage, Member from the Police Department former Director of National Intelligence Mohamed Hafiz Marso, former Test cricketer Sidath Wettimuny, former President of SLRFU Asanga Seneviratne, Legal Expert Attorney at Law Panduka Keerthinanda, veteran journalist Asoka Gunatilleke, leading sports star Priyantha Ekanayake, veteran athlete and Project Officer Education Ministry Sriyani Kulawansa and Secretary of National Sports Council Shalika Kariyawasam.
